Phius Certified Rater Exam

Exam Overview

  • Students must apply and meet pre-requisites to qualify to take the exam.
  • The exam is an all-online, open-book, multiple choice exam delivered via Phius' training site.
  • Students have a one-week window to complete the 1-hour exam.
  • Grades are available immediately following the exam.

Please review prerequisites below and prepare documentation before applying.

To Qualify to take the Exam:

    1. Current EPA Energy Star Rater Partnership Agreement
    2. Current EPA Indoor airPLUS Partnership Agreement
    3. Current Dept. of Energy (DOE) Zero Energy Ready Homes Rater Partnership
    4. Successful completion of EPA Energy Star Certified Homes v3.0 Training
    5. Successful completion of Phius Certified Rater Training, OR already Certified as a Phius Certified Verifier
    6. Alignment with recognized programs per below:
      • All states except California and Alaska:
        1. Fully Certified as a RESNET HERS Rater
        2. Currently aligned with a RESNET QA Provider and in good standing with RESNET
      • In California
        1. Be certified as a HERS Rater and be in good standing with either a RESNET QA Provider or a California Energy Commission Approved Provider
      • In Alaska
        1. Be certified as a HERS Rater and be in good standing with either a RESNET QA Provider or a certified Energy Rater through the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation.

Certification Expire?

Re-activate your Phius Certified Rater credential by passing the Recertification Exam. The registration includes access to the Phius Certified Rater on-demand background training content.
