Randy Nilsson

Wisconsin Chapter Board Member

Randy began his construction career in 1976 working for a roofing company and several small concrete foundation companies in the Chicago area, until going to work for Pepper Construction, as a commercial carpenter. He stayed with Pepper Construction until 1996, when he was recruited to come to work at Wrigley Field as one of the off-season house carpenters. I was offered a full-time position, which he turned down, due to his plan to move to Northern Wisconsin, to start Great Lakes Carpentry. He started doing business as Great Lakes Carpentry in 1999. He focused on working alone, in the remodeling field of construction.

Randy was recruited by Strongwood Log Home Company in 2000 and became a dealer. He partnered with another Strongwood dealer in our adjoining county, as the production arm, to build the first full-log home in Wisconsin to be Wisconsin Energy Star Rated and Wisconsin Green Built Certified. They entered the Department of Energy’s Builder’s Challenge and lead the field for energy efficient full-log homes in Wisconsin, with three homes under their belts.

Randy became a Timberpeg Independent Rep in 2007, where we got our first experience with SIP’s. He went on to become an Enercept SIP Dealer and won an award from Focus on Energy New Homes Program, for building the most energy efficient home in Northern Wisconsin in 2016.

He took Phius Certified Builder training in 2014 and continue down the road of energy efficient home building today, with his first Phius Certified new home project under construction currently.
