Jeff Betts first encountered passive building concepts with Mushroom Insulation feasibility studies (you read that right) having worked at Ecovative during and after architecture school in Troy, New York. Once he left, he wanted to put his degree to better use and worked at Case Window and Door, a company renowned for manufacturing high-performance luxury German windows and doors. This is where he first fell in love with tilt turn windows, lift and slide doors, air sealing, and started his journey as a "fenestrator".
In 2020, he started Sash and Frame with partners he met at Case, and they focused on installation and service of European windows and doors. After seeing the need for a manufacturer expertise in both the sales and installation sides of things, they began importing windows and doors.
Jeff is proudly stubborn about his feelings on quality, equality and transparency. Working with Phius has been a rewarding opportunity for him to bring more people into the passive conversation where we are improving the quality of buildings and training more skilled tradespeople. Ask Jeff about all things high-performance windows, doors, skylights, and the detailing, air sealing, weather sealing and installation.
