Brent Watanabe, NCARB, CPHC®, LEED BD+C is an architect and educator focused on high-performance, low-energy buildings that prioritize occupant comfort, indoor air quality, and long-term resilience. His work is guided by a commitment to healthy materials and carbon reduction through rigorous performance standards and climate-responsive design. With more than 15 years of professional experience across a wide range of project types, Brent approaches projects of all scales with an emphasis on collaboration, durability, and building performance. He applies passive building principles as a proven framework for lowering energy demand, improving indoor environmental quality, and supporting resilient buildings that maintain comfort and air quality while reducing dependence on the energy grid.
Brent teaches at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning and is committed to advancing performance-driven design within architectural education and professional practice. Through his involvement with the Phius Alliance, he supports the adoption of passive building principles as a pathway to healthier, more resilient communities.
