  • Position: Building Certification Associate, Mechanical Systems Specialist

    About Phius

    Phius (rhymes with Prius) is a 501(c)3 organization committed to making high-performance passive building principles the mainstream best building practice, and the mainstream market energy performance standard. Buildings that meet the rigorous Phius standard use 40-60 percent less energy than conventional buildings—with a commensurate reduction of carbon emissions. Phius is the leading provider of professional training for passive building design, construction and quality assurance professionals. Phius also provides a robust continuing education program. Phius offers primarily synchronous, instructor-led courses that are online or in-person, and most offerings also include an asynchronous online training ahead of the instructor-led portions (i.e. hybrid trainings). 

    Position Overview

    As demand for passive building grows, Phius is in search of a qualified individual to join the Phius Building Certification Team. The position will report to a Building Certification Manager, but will be expected to work independently to achieve goals and targets. Key responsibilities are listed, but not limited to:

    Key Responsibilities

    • Reviewing building energy models for compliance with Phius and best practices
    • Reviewing architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings for compliance with Phius standards and best practices
    • Communicating/responding to project-specific inquiries from Phius-certified passive building professionals
    • Research projects and certification protocol development
    • Database updates and general programmatic updates

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Performance, Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
    • 3+ years of experience working in passive building or a related high-performance building field
    • Energy modeling experience
    • Proficiency with software generally: Microsoft Office, Google Docs and internet best practices
    • Communication and organizational skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master of Science Degree in Building Performance, Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
    • 5+ years of experience working in passive building or a related high-performance building field
    • Proficiency with WUFI Passive, WUFI Pro, THERM, EnergyPlus or OpenStudio, IES VE and/or Python

    Compensation

    • Starting Salary: $75,000-$85,000 depending on experience
    • Vacation time: 10 days per year + birthday + additional day of CTO awarded per year of service
    • Sick time off: 5 days per year with up to 40 hours of unused STO rollover per year
    • 403(b) (non-profit version of 401(k)): Employee contribution available upon sign-up and 10% employer matching after 1 year.
    • Medical, dental and vision insurance: Phius covers 75% of the insurance premium
