This year’s edition of PhiusCon (Nov. 7-10) will bring the tried and true methodology and expertise of our seasoned lineup of presenters to a new frontier in Houston

The expert building science analysis, detailed case studies and lively panel discussions will remain (with a slightly increased focus on hot & humid climates – it is Texas after all!). While the locale will offer a unique experience for attendees, with as much to do inside and near the conference hotel as there has ever been!

The Marriott Marquis Houston, home to the entirety of PhiusCon 2023 Pre-Conference and Core Conference, is located in a walkable, vibrant section of Houston, with plenty of restaurants, attractions and outdoor recreation nearby. As you prepare for your trip to Houston this November, we’d like to provide a guide of some of the happenings near PhiusCon. This is not a comprehensive list, but should be a good place to start!

Discovery Green Park

Outdoor Space

Looking for some green space to go on a morning jog or take an afternoon stroll between sessions? You’re in luck!

Directly across the street from the PhiusCon hotel is Discovery Green park, an expansive green space that includes a jogging trail, small lake, dog run, coffee shop and Brazilian food truck. It’s also the perfect spot for an impromptu meet-up or meeting.

Another outdoor option is of course the hotel’s pool deck, which includes a bar/restaurant and a Texas-shaped lazy river.

Food

Some of The Pit Room barbecue options

From barbecue and beyond, there is no shortage of dining options in and around the PhiusCon hotel. In addition to the six in-house restaurants at the Marriott Marquis Houston, we’ve enlisted our Houston Phius staff to compile a list of some recommended eateries in the area. We did our best to venture beyond barbecue, but we had to include at least a few – it is Houston after all.

Entertainment

Make the most of your trip to Houston by enjoying a show, museum, game or other activity!

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

About 12 minutes down the road from the PhiusCon hotel, you will find a museum campus of sorts, with the Museum of Fine Arts, Children’s Museum Houston and Houston Museum of Natural Science within a few blocks of one another.

Just a few minutes walk from the museums is the Houston Zoo, where you will find jaguars, red pandas, black mambas and more!

For those looking to get their sports fix, the NBA season will be underway, and Toyota Center, the home of the Houston Rockets, is just a few blocks from the conference hotel. The Rockets schedule has not been released yet, but check back in a month or so to see if they’re in town!

We are looking forward to welcoming our community to a new location this fall, and hopefully this mini guide is useful in your PhiusCon planning. We did our best to cover the important attractions, but there’s even more to do in Houston if you’re looking to expand your trip even further.

Look forward to seeing you this fall!
