Site Shading Modeling in the New WUFI Passive Shading Tool

The PHIUS certification software WUFI implemented a new shading methodology that considers the interaction of self-shading and surrounding elements in the calculation of energy demands and peak loads. The new method uses as an input the geometrical representation of elements that shade transparent components. Therefore, more complex shading devices can be modeled and calculated in a more user-friendly process. This webinar will discuss the performance of the new WUFI shading methodology in relation to ‘Site Shading’. In the PHIUS certification program, site shading is accounted for by ‘landscape obstructions’ and ‘’winter and summer fractions of solar exposure’. The modeling of these obstructions and fractions will be shown through a step-by-step process using the ‘building geometry tools’ and the ‘updated pathfinder protocol’.
