An in-depth look at the agenda for the inaugural Phius Pro Forum.
There’s something for every Phius professional at the Phius Pro Forum.
Designed with your needs in mind, the Phius Pro Forum is all about providing real, actionable tools and insights that you can immediately apply to your Phius-certified designs and construction projects in climate zones throughout the country and beyond. This three-day, hands-on event, happening Oct. 21-23 in Providence, Rhode Island, features workshops led by Phius staff and top industry experts who will share strategies and resources to make your projects run smoother, faster, and more efficiently.
The agenda for each day was carefully curated with the needs of different types of Phius professionals with varying levels of experience in mind. Below you will find a day-by-day breakdown of the Phius Pro Forum agenda, including a rundown of some of the highlights of each day’s sessions.
The first day of the Phius Pro Forum dives straight into the good stuff with three all-day workshops that will take attendees on deep dives into several key topics.
One of those topics is the new Phius REVIVE 2024 retrofit standard, which will be the focus of one of the all-day workshops on Day 1. The Phius staff members who created and honed the standard will provide a detailed look at methodologies, the accompanying tools, the certification process, and more!
The Multifamily Electrification workshop will take attendees through the mechanical design and implementation process for multifamily and commercial projects. Led by some of the most experienced engineering professionals in passive building, this session is must-see for anyone working in the commercial and/or multifamily sectors.
Day 1 also takes attendees to the cutting edge, with a workshop dedicated to prefabrication and modular design. Piece together prefab projects in the morning and learn from visionary architect Chris Benedict and respected Phius pro Julie Klump about their modular work in the afternoon.
Day 2 is all about the details.
Air sealing takes center stage in the morning with a trio of workshops running concurrently that will examine the topic from the perspectives of different Phius professionals (CPHC®, CPHB and Rater/Verifier). These specialized workshops will set the stage for the subsequent plenary address from building science pioneer Dr. Joe Lstiburek on the “perfect wall.”
The building enclosure’s time in the spotlight doesn’t end there though, as the afternoon brings sessions on hygrothermal rules, thermal bridging, windows, and retrofit detailing.
The final day of the Phius Pro Forum zooms out to focus on business models, funding strategies (looking at you Massachusetts), and certification processes.
An address on case studies from a cost perspective from Mike Steffen of Walsh Construction Co. kicks off the festivities, and the threads of cost and optimization run throughout the rest of the day’s programming. Morning sessions include an examination of design and construction business models on various scales, a step-by-step walkthrough for meeting the new Massachusetts Stretch Code, and a look at the value of early feasibility assessments with Phius staff.
During lunch, attendees will be introduced to the new, cloud-based version of WUFI by its developers – an early look that may prove invaluable as the new version is phased into use in the coming months.
Massachusetts is the focus of another session in the afternoon, as the Phius Policy team is joined by a representative from ICF to explore incentives available for Phius projects in the state. Members of the Phius Technical Team, including Co-Executive Director Lisa White, tackle tricky decisions for multifamily projects in another afternoon session. Not sure how to handle a trash chute or laundry room? This is the session for you!
The final two breakout sessions of the Forum will each feature presentations from companies that have made Phius a core part of their businesses. They will break down how they did it and how to tackle various challenges along the way.
To bring everything together, Phius Co-Executive Director Katrin Klingenberg will deliver the closing keynote on optimizing for all scales.
Can’t wait to see you in Providence!
