Help Make Passive Building Mainstream Support PHIUS

Call for Abstracts: 15th Annual North American Passive House Conference, Tarrytown, New York, October 13 - 17

October 13-17

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tarrytown
455 South Broadway
Tarrytown, New York, 10591, USA

This year’s 15th Annual PHIUS North American Passive House Conference will have a distinct New York accent. In partnership with NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority), the conference will be held in Tarrytown, New York, proximate to fantastic passive projects in New York City as well as the Hudson Valley.

NYSERDA has made New York a leader in energy and carbon reduction. The annual PHIUS North American Passive House Conference--the largest and longest running passive building event in North America--provides the perfect forum to make NYSERDAs successful programs part of the national discussion. The state authority has subsidized passive building training to build the workforce, offers cash incentives for multifamily units built and certified to the PHIUS+ standard, pressed for stringent codes, and incentivized high-performance building through efforts like it’s Buildings of Excellence program. We look forward to the agency’s participation.

As always, the Conference provides a forum to share the best of passive building through case studies, best practices, lessons learned, and product knowledge. Broadly, we're looking for:

  • Passive building best practices, standards, design tools, science
  • Proven technology, materials, systems
  • Successfully completed case studies in all climates with all construction types: Single, Multifamily (lo, mid, hi), commercial, retrofits
  • Lessons learned from professionals in the field/practice

We want abstracts/proposals that tackle existing and the next-frontier challenges on the path to zero:

  • States’ and cities’ climate action and zero energy code progress
  • Innovation in finance and technology
  • Cost optimization for design, construction and manufacturing
  • Passive + zero carbon + renewable grid solutions
  • Successful passive retrofit solutions including manufactured component approaches such as panel systems
  • International climate-specific passive projects
  • QA/QC professional file experiences in multiple building typologies
  • Integrating PHIUS+ QA/QC protocol from start to finish
  • Performance verification
  • The relationship between high-performance/passive building and economic/workforce development
  • Carbon/impact assessment
