As ICON Architecture's Director of Sustainability, Gabrielle Aitcheson believes design can be leveraged to manifest the firm's mission to improve environmental and social resilience. With a conscientious and cohesive approach to sustainable office operations and through the establishment of ICON’s Sustainability Action Plan, she ensures ICON's staff have the knowledge and tools they need to be advocates for all clients, communities and ecosystems. Through the creation of office standards focused on design integrity and ensuring a feedback loop through all project phases including post-occupancy, Gabrielle is working to establish a rigorous baseline of healthy, equitable, durable buildings. ICON focuses on minimizing the built environment's use of finite resources by ensuring each project is evaluated through testing and metrics, prioritizing renewed structures and renewable energy, and reducing operation energy and embodied carbon through modeling. Gabrielle is dedicated to exploring cutting-edge techniques for new and existing buildings to accommodate the ever-changing environment, evidenced in her year long research on architecture's response to the rising tides in Boston for her master’s thesis at the University of Miami. She is especially passionate about Affordable Passive House buildings, where her love for data driven decisions, inclusion and resiliency easily align.
